In Great Britain motor traffic dropped by about a fifth compared with the previous five-year time period, but cycling rose by over half. In England the number of people cycling three or more times in a week rose from 3.7 million in 2015-19 to 5.3 million in 2020.

However 62% of people in Britain regard cycling on roads as “too dangerous” and in 2020 in Oxford alone there were 3,345 collisions involving a bike and another road user.
